Commissioners of photography will not sit and wonder about who you are, they may love your work but can they trust you to deliver? That is the question.

This is so important that we suggest you get a professional writer to do it for you. When you read your biography you should be thinking, WOW! is this really me? That is when you know it's been written properly.
Nicola Joyce is a freelance copy writer and has written a lot of biographies for the LPA and Gallery 1839 photographers.

But ask anyone inside the business, from agents and managers to writers and producers, and they'll give you an earful of unhappy news. "The Expendables" may have given Sly Stallone and his aging posse of action stars a new lease on life, but jobs are just as scarce in show business as everywhere else.

China says no to film ratings
Regulator: classification system would be 'inappropriate'
China's top industry regulator, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, said that an ongoing debate about a film classification system must end now and that China had no plans to introduce such a system as it was "inappropriate."
Any Michael J. Fox Sighting on TV Is a Good One
Due to his on-going battle with Parkinson’s disease, Michael J. Fox doesn’t appear on television too frequently. When he does decide to make a guest appearance somewhere it tends to not only be pretty big news but, in some cases, results in a ratings boost for the show. This time around, the five-time Emmy winner is appearing on the drama “The Good Wife.” Fox will appear as lawyer Simon Canning, a cynical litigator who goes against Alicia Florrick — played by “Good Wife” Emmy-nominated star Julianna Margulies — in a class action suit against a large pharmaceutical company. From the network press release, Fox’s character will also be a victim of Parkinson’s and use it to his advantage during the trial to encourage sympathy for the huge corporation.

Wayne’s Cineflix Set to Storm Hollywood
Christina Wayne’s Cineflix Studios will introduce itself to Hollywood next week with a pitch for a comedy series based on the book “It Could Be Worse, You Could Be Me” by Ariel Leve. Cineflix has optioned the book by the journo who pens the “Cassandra” column for the London Sunday Times’ magazine. Wayne, the former AMC programming exec, partnered with Canuck production house Cineflix to launch a Gotham-based scripted development wing last month. Wayne and Leve are set to make the rounds of network and studio buyers in L.A. next week, in what marks Wayne’s first visit to the town in her new capacity. The main character in the pilot is a successful femme journo in her late 30s whose life is turned upside down when she loses her job. It’s envisioned as a single-camera half-hour.

It’s Official: Carrey In as “Mr. Popper”
Jim Carrey has concluded his deal to star in 20th Century Fox’s family pic “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” the bigscreen adaptation of the beloved 1938 children’s book that will modernize the storyline. Carrey has been circling to play the lead since June. Mark Waters is directing. John Davis is producing “Penguins” via his production company Davis Entertainment, which has a first-look deal with Fox. In the film, Mr. Popper is a high-powered, New York buisness man who suddenly inherits six penguins. Taking care of the animals is no easy matter, and he quickly hits major hurtles, both at home and at work. But along the way, he learns the value of family and friendship — human and otherwise.

Tim Burton + “Addams Family” = Marriage Made In Heaven?

Goth auteur extraordinaire Tim Burton is set to take on one of his biggest influences with a new “Addams Family” stop motion feature film, and the script will be written by two of Burton’s old friends, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who previously wrote the script for Burton’s acclaimed biography “Ed Wood.” The Addams Family, of course, has been adapted numerous times since it first appeared in a series of popular New Yorker cartoons by Charles Addams in the 1930’s, including versions for television, stage and screen. Most of the adaptations, however, have softened Addams’s dark humor, something that won’t be necessary for the perpetually creepy Burton, who has made a name for himself with similarly themed works such as the classic 1993 stop motion film “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Shingle Nabs Film Rights to Pair of Books
Articulus Entertainment has snapped up feature rights to a pair of bestsellers — “A Dirty Job” and “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid.” Both projects will be produced by Articulus principal Steven Sawalich. “A Dirty Job,” penned by Christopher Moore and published by HarperCollins, is a satire about man’s quest to find out the meaning of death as a widower copes with the untimely death of his wife while raising their newborn daughter. In the process he becomes death’s representative on earth, collecting people’s souls before they die. “The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid,” penned by travel humorist Bill Bryson and published in 2006, takes a nostalgic look at Bryson’s childhood in Des Moines, Iowa, in the 1950s.

Indie Getting Set for a Little “Playback”
Bennett Robbins Prods. has teamed with Emmett/Furla Films on supernatural thriller “Playback,” with filming to start next month in Grand Rapids, Mich. “Playback” will star Johnny Pacar in the lead along with Toby Hemingway, Brooke Smith, Alessandra Torresani, Jonathan Keltz, Ambyr Childers, Daryl Mitchell and Jennifer Missoni. The film will be produced by John M. Bennett and Lawrence Robbins in conjunction with Randall Emmett and George Furla. Michael A. Nickles (”Just Peck”) is directing from his own script, centered on high school students digging into their town’s infamous past and unwittingly unlocking a demon that preys upon their classmates. Possessing its victims through video playback, the demon closes in on one specific soul, threatening to expose the town’s deepest, darkest secret.

Big Winner at Cannes to Get Seen Stateside

Internet-based distributor IndiePix will release Warwick Thornton’s Camera d’Or winner “Samson and Delilah,” giving the movie theatrical runs in New York, D.C. and L.A. Also involved in the U.S. release strategy is a gala screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Oct. 12, with official openings skedded for Oct. 15 at Manhattan’s Cinema Village, Brooklyn’s IndieScreen, Santa Monica’s Aero Theater and a Washington venue to be announced. Movie centers on the journey of two Aboriginal teens, played by Rowan McNamara and Marissa Gibson, who flee their remote Central Australian community. Pic opened in Australia in early 2009 before it went on to win the Camera d’Or at that year’s edition of the Cannes Film Fest.

Clint Eastwood’s “Hereafter,” which stars Matt Damon, Cecile de France, Jay Mohr and Bryce Dallas Howard, has been selected to serve as the closing night film at the 48th New York Film Festival, which runs Sept. 24-Oct. 10. The supernatural thriller about three people haunted by their mortality will be released by Warners on Oct. 22. “Hereafter” is Eastwood’s fourth film to secure a berth at the prestigious fest, where his previous films “Bird,” “Mystic River” and “The Changeling” also played.

Brilliantly Named Brit Latest to Join “Tinker”

Benedict Cumberbatch, who might just have the most insanely British name ever, has been cast in the upcoming (re)adaptation of John Le Carre’s “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” written by Peter Morgan (”The Queen,” “Frost/Nixon”) and directed by Tomas Alfredson (”Let The Right One In”). He’s yet another excellent addition to an already outstanding roster comprised of Gary Oldman, Ralph Fiennes, Colin Firth, Michael Fassbender and David Thewlis. He’ll be playing Peter Guillam, the protege of Oldman’s George Smiley, who helps to identify a Russian mole within the British intelligence community.

New “X” Flick Gets Itself a Rose (Byrne, That Is)
Aussie actress Rose Byrne is in talks to join the ensemble cast of Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class.” The “Damages” star is prepping to cozy up to James McAvoy’s young Professor Xavier as his love interest, scientist and genetic mutation expert Moira MacTaggert. The movie will feature a number of young actors — including Alice Eve, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, and Nicholas Hoult — playing young versions of Marvel’s famous mutants. Michael Fassbender previously joined the cast as Magneto, and Kevin Bacon has signed on to play the film’s mysterious villain.

And The Winner of the Lisbeth Salander Sweepstakes Is …
After a seemingly endless search, it looks like actress Rooney Mara has landed the coveted lead role of Lisbeth Salander in “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” She’ll join the previously cast Daniel Craig, who signed on to play journalist Mikael Blomkvist at the end of last month. Robin Wright is also in talks to join the film, as Blomkvist’s lover, Erika Berger. The project will re-team Mara with director David Fincher, with whom she worked on “The Social Network,” about the rise of the popular social media network site Facebook. Writer Hired to Adapt Thriller Novel
Entendre Films and Identity Films have tapped scribe Wayne Beach (”Murder at 1600,” “Art of War”) to adapt Lee Vance’s recently published thriller “The Garden of Betrayal.” Danielle Pelland of Entendre Films is producing with Anthony Mastromauro of Identity Films. “Betrayal” centers on a well-connected energy analyst in the midst of a deadly game for control of what’s left of the global oil supply, while realizing his son’s kidnapping and his insider knowledge are at the heart of the plot.

We Think We Know What’s Best for MGM. Maybe.
We’re not really sure what to make of this MGM mess, which feels like it’s been going on for years. It seems like there should have been a solution by now, but then one could say the same thing about this Carl Icahn-Lionsgate issue, or that it shouldn’t have taken as long as it did for Disney to sell Miramax. But, all these months in, here we are, no Bond movie, no Hobbit, no nothing, though maybe there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Ah, but what is that light we're discussing? Click on the provided link to read on and find out:

Disney Hands Out Rare Deal to “Tron” Producer
Producer Jeffrey Silver has signed an overall production deal with Walt Disney Pictures. Under the agreement, Silver will focus on producing the key tentpole productions. It is only the second producer pact made since Sean Bailey took the job of production head in January. It also is one of the rare deals being signed at any studio in an age where such partnerships are being cut or simply not being renewed. Silver is now wrapping “Tron Legacy,” Disney’s sci-fi tentpole directed by Joseph Kosinski that comes out in December. Silver ran Outlaw Prods. with Bobby Newmyer, producing such films as the “Santa Clause” series and “Training Day.” When Newmyer died suddenly in 2005, Silver created his own shingle, Biscayne Pictures.

Filling Stallone’s Shoes? No Problem for Urban
Looks like “Judge Dredd” officially has someone new to wear the helmet. New Zealand-born actor Karl Urban (”Star Trek”) has been tapped to essay the steel-jawed, helmet-wearing, hard-core dispenser of justice title character in a dystopian far future. Producers Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich confirmed Urban’s casting at a Q&A session. Even better, at least for diehard Judge Dredd fans? Unlike the first attempt to bring Dredd to the big screen with Sylvester Stallone 15 years ago, Urban won’t remove the helmet during the entire running time. That’s right, Urban will have to depend on his exposed lower jaw, mouth, head, and body movements to convey Dredd’s inner life (assuming he has one). Pete Travis (”Vantage Point”) has been tapped to take on directing duties.

Malick Set to Make Another Movie, Adds Cast
Seems like even director Terence Malick has gotten so antsy working on “Tree of Life,” his much-anticipated and characteristically much-delayed new film, that he’s moved on to casting his next project. Word has it that Ben Affleck and Rachel Weisz have just been cast in Malick’s as-yet-untitled next project. The project was initially announced at this year’s Berlin Film Festival where it was described as a “powerful and moving love story.” Affleck’s agents have not officially confirmed that he has been cast in the film, though Weisz’s agents have. Christian Bale was initially tapped for the role Affleck will now be playing. Other cast members announced at Berlin include Javier Bardem, Rachel McAdams and Olga Kurylenko.

Betty White + Jennifer Love Hewitt = Hallmark Dream Team?
Betty White and Jennifer Love Hewitt will star in a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie for CBS called “The Lost Valentine.” Based on the novel by James Michael Pratt, film will star Hewitt as a reporter who profiles a woman (played by White) whose husband was declared missing in action during World War II. The film will shoot in Atlanta this fall and will air in early 2011.

What’s Up, Doc? Bugs Bunny Coming Back to Theaters!
Warner Bros. has decided to no longer ignore one of their most lucrative franchises and is looking to get the Looney Tunes back in the spotlight. The studio has hired David Berenbaum (”Elf,” “The Spiderwick Chronicles”) to write a live-action/CG feature film that will star the beloved animated characters. No producer has been assigned yet. It’s been a while since the Looney Tunes appeared in a feature film. Warner scored a slam dunk in 1996 with “Space Jam” (pictured) but sputtered out in 2003 with director Joe Dante’s “Looney Tunes: Back in Action.”

I don't think we should mourn because there's nothing much we can do about time and progress. We'll never have builders or furniture makers like the Victorians. We'll never have silent movies and the Hollywood Golden Era. Digital photography, computers and the internet are very positive things. Photojournalism, real photojournalism and photojournalist will be seen as an art form in galleries, just like old school film is used by fine art photographers. We can't turn back the clock. We have to evolve and work as best we can.

Star Comic Writer’s Latest Work Going Cinematic

Twentieth Century Fox has acquired the rights to “Kick-Ass” creator Mark Millar’s latest creator-owned title, “Nemesis.” Tony Scott is attached to direct under the Scott Free production banner, but a screenwriter to handle the adaptation hasn’t been hired yet. Story centers on Matt Anderson, a billionaire genius who can be described as the anti-Bruce Wayne/Batman. Millar imagined a similar origin (i.e., a billionaire’s son, separated forcibly from his parents), but with a completely different background and outcome. Anderson dedicates his life to crime, not as a costumed vigilante, but as a costumed criminal (he hunts detectives for sport), before turning his attention to Blake Morrow, the detective he considers responsible for his father’s death.

Linklater and Black, Together Again!

Richard Linklater and Jack Black are set to reteam for the Castle Rock/Mandalay Vision black comedy “Bernie.” The pair, who worked together on Black’s breakout role in “School of Rock,” will reunite for the pic, which will also star Shirley MacLaine. Project is based on the Texas Monthly magazine article “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas” penned by Skip Hollandsworth, whose work has spawned a number of big- and smallscreen projects including the CBS telepic “Suburban Madness.” Linklater and Hollandsworth penned the script together. Story centers on the titular character, a Renaissance man, a community leader, a mortician … who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a wealthy widow (MacLaine) that leads to fatal consequences. Mandalay Vision’s Celine Rattray will produce alongside Castle Rock’s Martin Shafer and Liz Glotzer. Ginger Sledge will also produce.

Sean McGinly, who wrote and directed “The Great Buck Howard,” has been tapped to adapt indie crime drama “The Old Man and the Gun.” Anthony Mastromauro is producing for Identity Films with Identity exec Stephanie Striegel co-producing. Project is based on an article by David Grann about lifelong bank robber and prison escape artist Forrest Tucker, who evaded law enforcement nationwide for two decades after escaping San Quentin in 1979. He was finally apprehended in 1999, at age 79, while trying to stick up one last bank.

Cruise Not Going to Break the Bank on “M:I-4″

Paramount Pictures will not show Tom Cruise the money for the upcoming “Mission: Impossible 4.” Sources say the action star will take a pay scale for his work and will only be rewarded if the movie recoups its investment of about $70 million. The implications of this are twofold. First, it speaks to the diminishing star power of Cruise, and second, it suggests that studios are increasingly becoming wary of handing over bundles of money to stars upfront. Stars can make the big money, but only after the movies are hits, according to the report, which cited Jim Carrey’s take of $30 million for his work on the 2008 comedy “Yes Man” after accepting a scale up-front.

A passport? This is totally illegal and I will not copy and scan and email my Government ID to a social network. They refuse to say why they need this. On their website they state that a user needs a password and Security Questions to confirm ownership. Why is a social network asking for my Government ID?
