Ginger Media and Entertainment represents the new school of public relations and PR and their expertise can really help you as individual members. The company is renowned as one of the leading social media marketing and digital PR companies in the USA and UK. It combines online PR, social media marketing and SEO with traditional methods of publicity and event organising.
Further discussion and exhibitions: London and the 2012 Olympics
Peter Mackertich felt that "Putting 'London' into the London Photographic Association" was an important issue. This led on to members discussing the importance of exhibitions. It was suggested that an annual LPA Exhibition with good PR around it would be of benefit.
Peter also pointed out that it is now just two years before the 2012 Olympics in London and this would be a good opportunity for the LPA to hold a major exhibition with London as its theme.

Wild tigers in China are on the Brink of Extinction
Xie Yan, the China Country Program Director for the Wildlife Conservation Society, estimates that fewer than 50 South China Tigers are left in the wild, with about "10 still live in the southwestern province of Yunnan, some 15 in Tibet, and 20 or so in northwestern Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces." Even if take a step back and look at 12 Asian countries and Russia, it is estimated that only about 3,500 tigers are left in the wild, compared to around 100,000 at the beginning of the 20th century.

Philip Lee Harveyartist's statement : Multi award-winning photographer Philip Lee Harvey has travelled the globe in search of his subjects, finding them everywhere from the dark drama of a Haitian voodoo ceremony to the stark brightness of Bolivian salt flats.

He believes photography should convey the emotion of places and people rather than functioning simply as a descriptive guide. He has spent the past 15 years perfecting his art, researching and preparing shoots and then working spontaneously to capture a moment.

His images focus on the character of people and places and are acclaimed for their graphic quality, use of light and composition. For Philip, photography acts as a physical and emotional adventure. His work is always a journey and an exploration of the perfect moment. It has become highly collectable.

Philip’s work has been exhibited widely in both Europe and the Americas and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the world.

LPA Social Media developments
Kevin O'Connor opened the meeting by explaining the rationale behind working with Ginger Lui Media to raise awareness of the LPA and its members. The importance of the social networking side of the LPA site was discussed (Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin). Kevin explained that members need to link to the LPA twitter account, Facebook group and Linkedin group and interact with them: this will help themselves and the LPA to grow. Employing Ginger to manage the LPA's networking saves members time and lets them enjoy the benefits of networking through a large group, rather than having to go through the learning curve alone. Kevin promised to keep banging on about the worth/importance of social media…oh dear!

As a conceptual photographer, he is not interested in creating perfect images of beautiful people. Sebastian Rich

ABOUT WORK

Where Fools Rush In (The Death Of News) Introduction by Martin Bell:

His words have all the force and subtlety of a rocket propelled grenade. Sebastian Rich knows about RPGs. He was hit by one in the Shouf Mountains of Lebanon. And by Serbian sniper fire in Sarajevo. And kidnapped and mock-executed. And knocked about and battered in various hell holes from Somalia to San Salvador. He has been in the wars and has bits of the wars in him, in the mind as well as the body. Having come through so much, he can describe a fire fight like no one else alive except perhaps Anthony Loyd of The Times. (Kurt Schork of Reuters could do it too, but was killed in a tinpot ambush in Sierra Leone.) The two survivors have much in common. Like Anthony, Sebastian has scores to settle, some of them with himself.

"What I like about the LPA is that it has a fresh feel amongst the other industry organisations. The LPA is down-to-earth and really approachable and seems to have an upbeat feel about it. The LPA and Gallery 1839 keep Peter on page one of Google.
"I work in California. As soon as you mention the word "London" in any conversation it makes people listen: it carries considerable clout! So the LPA brand gives kudos to my work on an international level. When people go to the LPA site to view my work they go on to browse around and tell me they are really impressed by the site. Having that superb website really helps. Gallery 1839 gives immediate recognition that I am also a fine art photographer. Of course, buying photographic images is a luxury so, in the current climate, we all have to keep on rebranding ourselves to keep people impressed. I constantly change my profile, keep my portfolio up to date and keep in touch with the LPA by sending them new images and text. I'd advise other LPA members to communicate more with the LPA. Constantly update your text and images. If you write an article, link it to the LPA and use the logo. I am totally behind LPA - it has really helped me gain exposure - and think we should all use it more shrewdly."
Annemieke Goldswain-Hein - LPA
"When I approached the Arts Council for funding, I used my LPA portfolio and two featured galleries to show I am actively marketing myself. This is an absolute must if you want funding. Less critical but just as helpful in the long-run, I've had great feedback from people seeing my work on the LPA website.

"I use the LPA because it puts me on a platform with other critically-recognised photographers. In terms of exposure, the LPA has a massive footprint, so any news the LPA publishes about me flies straight up the search-engine results. Basically, putting information about myself out through the LPA gets me straight in front of an international audience."

Putting London into the London Photographic Association. What do photographers want?
We spoke with a lot of LPA members at Vision '09 and the DPI events last year to get their feedback about the future of the London Photographic Association. One overriding request was to refocus our attention on London photographers (whilst continuing to support and promote our international members). With that in mind, we'd like to arrange regular meetings in London to brainstorm and action the future of the LPA.

Members' meetings in London
We propose using our first meeting on Wednesday 3rd February to bring our ideas together. Let's air our hopes and fears and see if we can agree on the future of the LPA and the purpose of future meetings. This is your chance to shape the Association and play an active part in steering the industry. Through these get-togethers, we should be able to work out a support structure that covers both commercial and fine art photographers.

Some ideas for consideration:
- getting speakers from various parts of the industry to come in and talk to us about hot topics
- arranging technical workshops
- securing good discounts for external workshops

Get involved
I would like to get some membership help: perhaps we should look to form a committee to help drive things forward? For our meetings to work well and be genuinely useful, we will need members to get involved. You are the Association, after all.

LPA-MovingPictures
Photography continues to go through massive changes in the commercial field, and this will affect the fine art market. We recognised some time ago that the moving image is going to become a very important part of the commercial lens-based industry. This is why we have invested in LPA-MovingPictures. If photographers want to remain active in securing advertising, fashion and editorial commissions, they'll need the ability to shoot video as well as stills.

Put the date in your diary
We have booked the upstairs room (with bar) at the Dog & Duck pub 18 Bateman Street Soho W1D 3AJ on the evening of Wednesday 3rd February from 7.00pm onwards. This will be the inaugural meeting of the LPA members group. Will you be there?
