Big Winner at Cannes to Get Seen Stateside

Internet-based distributor IndiePix will release Warwick Thornton’s Camera d’Or winner “Samson and Delilah,” giving the movie theatrical runs in New York, D.C. and L.A. Also involved in the U.S. release strategy is a gala screening at the Brooklyn Academy of Music Oct. 12, with official openings skedded for Oct. 15 at Manhattan’s Cinema Village, Brooklyn’s IndieScreen, Santa Monica’s Aero Theater and a Washington venue to be announced. Movie centers on the journey of two Aboriginal teens, played by Rowan McNamara and Marissa Gibson, who flee their remote Central Australian community. Pic opened in Australia in early 2009 before it went on to win the Camera d’Or at that year’s edition of the Cannes Film Fest.
