Rolling off its warm reception at Venice Film Festival, Francois Ozon’s “Potiche†has been acquired by Music Box Films for U.S. distribution. New York-based outfit Music Box is planning a theatrical bow next spring. Based on Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre Gredy’s hit play, the 1977-set satirical comedy has Catherine Deneuve play a trophy housewife who turns into an assertive factory manager and member of parliament. Tackling women’s emancipation with humor and melodrama, “Potiche†marks Ozon’s first comedy since 2002′ “8 Women.†Pic stars well-known French thesps, including Gerard Depardieu and Fabrice Lucchini (â€The Girl from Monacoâ€).
